The American Center for Law and Justice has filed a second brief with the U.S. Supreme Court, this time arguing against the individual mandate in the federal health reform law.
The groups brief, which it says represents the view of 119 members of Congress and 145,000 Americans, said forcing people to either buy health insurance or pay a fine, starting in January 2014, is unconstitutional. The group backs the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling last year that found the provision in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act illegal.
The individual mandate is at the center of many of the more than 20 federal court challenges of the PPACA, passed in March 2010.
