If you’re at all tempted to cut corners on paying for your auto insurance, first take into consideration the man who was jailed recently for allegedly presenting a false auto insurance card. The man, from Orleans County in the metro Rochester, NY area was charged on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
The Crime
As recently reported in The Daily News, Nicholas Rich was arraigned on Monday morning for allegedly presenting a false auto insurance card to a police officer. He was originally stopped at a traffic stop for driving on expired registration. Once his registration was further checked, it was discovered that it had been suspended for a lapse in insurance coverage.
When the police officer asked for proof of insurance, Rich presented a false insurance card. As a result, Rich was charged with forgery and sentenced to time in jail in lieu of a $10,000 fine.
Don’t Let This Happen to You
While we’re not saying that forgery has ever been on your mind, sometimes crazy thoughts can enter when looking for ways to cut corners on costs. The best way to ensure that you can lower your auto insurance rate is to shop around for coverage with new auto insurers until you find a rate you’re happy with.
It may take a little more time than you’d like, but the tradeoff will be obtaining affordable coverage with the great benefit of knowing you’re not in threat of breaking the law.
