A New Jersey hospital is offering a set of defensive driving courses to area residents to help curb the rising costs of auto insurance rates. Along with AARP and the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center is providing a two-day event to help lower rates for drivers.
About the Event
On Nov. 17 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the hospital will be hosting the defensive driving courses. Those who participate in both sessions will qualify for a two-point reduction on their driving record, as well as receive a discount on their auto insurance for three years. The program is primarily for drivers over 50, so those not in this age group may want to check with their auto insurance providers to make sure the discount can also apply to them. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers.
Online Defensive Driving Courses
If your state is not offering an event like the one in New Jersey, you may find a defensive driving program in your area. Also, there are a growing number of defensive driving programs found online. For instance, I Drive Safely offers state-approved online defensive driving courses for a number of states (view site map to see if your state participates)
While these programs may not offer automatic discounts like the program above, they can really help to lower your auto insurance rates in the long-run through your own safe driving efforts.
Also, don’t forget that you could always lower your auto insurance premiums by shopping around for affordable coverage options.
