New Jersey’s Camden Borrows $1.2 Million to Pay Bias Settlement

Camden, New Jersey officials have decided to borrow nearly $1.2 million to pay a settlement that covers racial discrimination claims brought by two deputy fire chiefs.

The City Council approved plans for a $1.175 million bond to cover the payments to Terrence Crowder and Kevin Hailey, who are black.

They first sued in 2001, alleging discrimination and a hostile work environment involving Fire Chief Joseph Marini and Chief Herbert Leary, who are white.

A jury in 2005 found for Crowder and Hailey, who remained in their jobs.

I try to keep up to date with all of the car insurance blogs in the UK and abroad to keep up with the latest news. Little bits and pieces tend to filter through on other blogs that I may have otherwise missed. However, I read the funniest advice that I have come across today. One American blog suggested that you needed to think about holiday cheer and all things good before heading out on the road during the festive season because people are more prone to road rage. I agree with the last point because people get so stressed about it all. However, holiday cheer is not going to prevent it when others are experiencing road rage.

Instead, think about your cheap car insurance.

$20.7 Billion Deficit in California Health Care Budget

Once more, California will have to scour every sector of state government to find another $20.7 billion to balance its budget over the next 19 months. Unfortunately this time, state leaders won’t be able to acquire savings from some of the state’s largest spending groups.

Man Jailed for Presenting False Auto Insurance Card

If you’re at all tempted to cut corners on paying for your auto insurance, first take into consideration the man who was jailed recently for allegedly presenting a false auto insurance card. The man, from Orleans County in the metro Rochester, NY area was charged on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

The Crime

As recently reported in The Daily News, Nicholas Rich was arraigned on Monday morning for allegedly presenting a false auto insurance card to a police officer. He was originally stopped at a traffic stop for driving on expired registration.
